INDIA TRIP Itinerary
January 24, 2009 - February 7, 2009
Day 1: Meet in Chennai at 2 pm-sightseeing of local temple and the city.
Day 2 & 3: Travel Thiruvannamalai-site of Arunachala, sacred mountain & living embodiment of Shiva, visit temples, ashram of Ramana Maharshi, and circumambulate Arunachala at night, which is considered to ensure liberation.
Day 4 & 5: Travel to Pondicherry, a lovely French city by the sea-home of Sri Aurobindo's ashram, and close to the modern spiritual city Auroville designed and inspired by Aurobindo's partner, The Mother.
Day 6: Pondicherry to Chidambaram where we visit the golden temple of Shiva the Dancer, and considered one of the most sacred of all the Shiva temples in south India. We will continue on to Thanjavur.
Day 7 & 8: Thanjavur-where we visit the famous museum which houses an unique collection of Chola bronzes of Shiva, Nataraja the Dancer, and the great medieval temple to Shiva, perhaps, the most glorious in India.
Day 9 & 10: Father Bede Griffiths' ashram at Shantivanam, on the sacred river Cauvery.
Day 11, 12, 13: Travel to Mahabalipuram-a miraculous sea-side town which is home to beautiful beaches and fourteen hundred year old Pallava dynasty rock temples and sculptures. This is one of India's funkiest and holiest playgrounds, and the perfect place to consummate our spiritual journey.
Day 14: Return to Chennai
Price: per double occupancy-$5600.00 (preliminary price - excluding airfare)-Includes breakfast, dinner, most tips (except our guide), ground transportation within India, and entrance to all temples and shrines.
